Red Ochre News for 2013

Red Ochre continue to be recognized as experts in the sector and during 2013 were once more invited to be involved in a number of social enterprise competitions and awards as judges. Click to find out more about our work with Santander, the British Chambers of Commerce and the RSA.

Get Seville Project

Congratulations to Martin Cooper for working hard to make our European green job placement programme Get Seville an exemplar of its type. Read more here.

There are still a couple of places left for a placement on the scheme from January - April, but these will go very quickly! We are looking for a marketing intern for the National Scientific Research Council in Spain and a Part 2 architect for a large sustainable architecture practice. Applicants should send a CV and email to Martin asap. If you can’t do January, look out for another 10 placements starting in April.

Our work overseas

Over the last year we have continued to spread our wings overseas to spread the good word on social enterprise and blended value businesses. We have visited Beijing, Amsterdam, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Utrecht and Tianjin.  

We have also continued to strengthen our links with South Korea. In the last 12 months we have received and entertained six official delegations from South Korea. The various delegations have included senior civil servants from central government, representatives from city administrations and social enterprise practitioners.

Audience numbers

Audience numbers for people attending workshops, seminars and conferences that Red Ochre ran or spoke at exceeded 4,500 for 2013 – a new record for us.

Robert and Sabina Ali founder of luxury womenswear label Sabina Motasem, have shared their top tips on how to write a winning business strategy. This is a summary of the session they gave on 29th November at the Business Start-up Show at Olympia, London.

The Ethical Property Foundation

Jo Taylor, Chief Executive of Red Ochre client the Ethical Property Foundation, is leaving after eight successful growing the foundation into one of the preeminent charities in the sector.

In our last meeting together she was gracious in her praise. “Robert of Red Ochre was recommended to the Foundation in 2011 to advise on income diversification strategies.Two years on, the Foundation has just completed its first full year of consultancy work – in which we have earned over 20% of our income from consultancy.

Chess in Schools

Well done to an old friend of ours, Peter Mant of Chess in Schools and Communities. Peter is involved in a research project with the Institute of Education to teach Year 5 students chess during curriculum time and see at the end of the year if their grades have exceeded expectations. Hammersmith & Fulham Brilliant Business Awards 2013

Congratulations to Elisicia Moore and her team for winning the Best Creative Business. Petit Miracle Interiors a social enterprise and long time client of Red Ochre won the award on the 7th of November at a ceremony in Bush Hall Shepherds Bush.

Charlie Raworth, the joint owner of Bush Hall and the Bush Diner, another enterprise that has been assisted by Red Ochre, won the Entrepreneur of the year award – congratulations to him too.

Transitions CIC

Transitions CIC provide inclusive workforce services. Their aim is to contribute to an equitable skilled jobs market, with particular reference to highly skilled refugees. They tell us that it’s been a good but challenging year, with increasing numbers of employers engaging but still a long list of candidates who we’re looking for internships for, engineers in particular. The Social Media Exchange takes place on Monday 27th January and is a series of bitesized interactive masterclasses, practical creative surgeries and networking opportunities to help charities navigate the changing media landscape - both on and offline - and exploit the opportunities available to tell your stories.
