Appetite for knowledge

Yesterday afternoon I was invited to speak on UK social enterprises at Beijing Forestry University. About 120 undergraduates were due to attend, but I was pleasantly suprise when over 220 students turned up. This is even more impressive since there was no formal advertising and the event was promoted purely by word of mouth.

To illustrate the curent state of SE in the UK and the challenges and opportunities for the model I talked around We Make a Change case study, a Red Ochre client. I covered the inspirational leadership team of Richard Abiona and Andre Hackett and the development of their voluntary group from enterprising organisation, through to social enterprise providing public servicve, to cross-subsidy and philanthropic donation via fully commerical activity.

I have no doubt that some of the attendees from the event will establish successful blended value organisations.

BTW, Richard may be known to you as the MOBO award winning Afrobeat music artist Fuse ODG.
