New business rates regime could drive new wave of enterprises in communities says report

A new report published by Social Enterprise UK, 3Space and Meanwhile Space proposes how business rates can be used as a tool to nurture new, diverse and community focused enterprise on high streets.

Commentary: The type of support has been used to mixed effect by a range of local authorities.  Lambeth Council, for instance,  has had some success in Brixton using this as part of a wider high street regeneration programme and in collaboration with local partners and stakeholder groups .

I think the critical success factor is its use as a part of a larger strategy and not as a silver bullet on its own.
