Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, has established a WeAlmaty Challenge Fund aimed at groups of people who develop ideas for social initiatives. The fund will provide seed funding to help groups test out ideas for social impact in Almaty.
A group of female facilitators visited London during November to better understand social initiatives and models of support provided in the UK, facilitated by the British Council.
The WeAlmaty facilitator group will run a one day workshop for people interested in applying to the WeAlmaty Challenge Fund and will also provide advice to groups to help applicants develop their ideas before and after accessing the Fund. The facilitators will also identify different groups that can provide support (public/ private/ community) and follow community engagement principles to work with residents.
Uday Thakkar ran a half day workshop for the group to understand social enterprise, the social enterprise journey, innovation and social innovation and how to use the Social Business Model Canvas to test and develop ideas.
